Covington Recreation began accepting registrations for both Boys & Girls Basketball programs (ages 5 - 10), on Friday, September 23rd and will continue through Monday, October 17, 2016. (REGISTRATION EXTENDED THRU FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21ST)  Boys and girls, ages 5 & 6 will practice and play their home games at Covington Elementary School.  William Pitcher Jr. High will be the site for practice and home games for Covington’s 7 – 10 year old teams.  "Our youth basketball program is a perfect place for children to learn the game if they’ve never played, or sharpen their skills if they have," Kelly Dietrich, Athletic Programs Director.

Parents can register their children at Covington City Hall - Recreation Department, 317 N. Jefferson Avenue, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and at the Covington Recreation Center, 4001 Des Porres, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Registration fees are $55.00.  The City also offers a Financial Assistance rate of $35.00 to qualifying families.

“Teaching the game and the fundamentals of basketball to younger kids is not only rewarding, but often a challenging experience for coaches – Covington REC supports the talents and efforts of our youth coaches by encouraging ‘KIF’ (keep it fun) atmosphere, creating a positive learning environment on and off the court.  We’re extremely energized at Covington REC, excited to now have the capacity to focus on escalating our existing sports and introduce fresh and stimulating athletic practices in our programing,” Pam Keller, Covington Director of Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Affairs.
