CITY TAKES PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES PRIOR TO THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS ANTICIPATED LATER THIS WEEK
TUESDAY, MARCH 8TH -- The City of Covington Public Works Department and City Engineer are coordinating efforts with St. Tammany Parish Government to identify drainage issues in the Covington area. As standard procedure before rains, the Public Works Department has already initiated cleaning of storm drains, culverts and ditches. These actions are taken as a precaution to circumvent the buildup of debris which may cause flooding during heavy downpours and severe storms. The Public Works Department will be on standby during this week's threatening weather to respond to emergency issues. The Public Works Department can be reached at 985-898-4700. “Please be assured that we are taking precautionary measures in advance of threatening weather conditions and utilizing the occurrence to gain further knowledge of areas where drainage improvements may be needed,” Mayor Mike Cooper.
